And I will do whatever you ask in my name...big promise from Jesus to his followers. He even gives a qualifier. He will do whatever we ask so that his father will be glorified. Does that give you an awe-struck feeling? Our savior will do whatever we ask in His name to glorify his father. WOW! So should we take this promise literally? Yes! Absolutely we should! Does this mean we have permission to treat Jesus like some genie in a bottle? Better be careful with that one. This is where the world starts watching.
Jesus promises us He will work and intercede on our behalf. He sets our plans in motion and assures our success. The question is motive. Consider the context. Jesus is explaining His imminent departure from his friends. Essentially He is giving marching orders to share His message with the world. To convince non-believers, they must perform miracles they have only observed to this point. He is also introducing the Holy Spirit.
Fast forward to today, in your home, office or vehicle reading these words. This verse tells us that anything we ask of Him, He will do to glorify the Father. We have a message to share. The big question is whether it's our message or His. Are we seeking to glorify Him or us? Does our message advance His Kingdom or our reputation? Big questions, bigger answers.
So if we believe the promise, we must also accept the responsibility. The fields are ripe for harvest. His message is vital and alive. Time is drawing near and we are charged with spreading the gospel. He has assigned tasks and assured success if we ask in His Holy Name. Our job is to obey. Align your message with His purpose and He will keep His promise. The question is do we believe?
